David bowled over after top honour
From Frank Christie, Secretary Fraserburgh Food Manufacturing G108.
Congratulations to David Heddle from the Macrae Fraserburgh Food Manufacturing branch after his Member of the British Empire (MBE) award in the New Year's Honours List.
David was given his honour for services to disabled bowls, where he has won many medals at events around the world. He won gold at the 2002 Commonwealth games in Manchester.
We're really pleased David has been recognised for his outstanding achievements in bowling over many years as part of the Scottish, British and Commonwealth teams. Sporting figures like Martin O'Neill, Clive Woodward and the World Cup winning rugby team, along with celebrities Eric Clapton and Fred Dibner dominated the headlines. So, it was good to have one of our own in there.
I spoke to David after the news broke and he was his usual modest self. "It's hard to believe this has happened," he said. "You read about this kind of thing in the paper about other folk, but you don't think it will happen to you. I feel really honoured and really blessed, I'm a happy man and thanks to everyone."
Once again many congratulations to David.
