Every little helps

Sound advice for funeral arranger Wendy Willis proved invaluable after she injured her fingers in an accident at work. Usdaw took up her case and she was awarded £800 compensation.

The accident happened three years ago when Wendy worked for West Midlands Co-op Funerals Service.

"I was locking up, and the padlock on the door shutter was very stiff," explained Wendy, 41. "As I tried to loosen it, the fingers on my right hand were bent back.

"I went to hospital and was told I'd damaged the muscles. My fingers were strapped up. I was given painkillers and told to rest."

Wendy was off work for five weeks.

"I was advised to put a claim in with the union. I soon had a union solicitor and everything was taken care of. The service was fantastic."
