Usdaw is the natural union for young workers
Research will tell you young people are not joining trade unions – that’s not the case in Usdaw where members aged under 26 make up around 15 per cent of the total membership.
With more than 49,500 members aged under 26, Usdaw's not only bucking the trend, it's signing more new young members, more young activists and promoting them onto the union's staff.
Usdaw's future depends on its ability to recruit, retain, and train young workers and with more than 700 young activists on its books the union's future looks bright.
Usdaw has a lot to offer. Training courses, lifelong learning opportunities and a youth section, exclusively for members aged 26 and below, allows young workers a whole host of opportunities to progress.
Youth Committees operate in the union's seven divisions with an annual national conference held in Warrington during November. Workshops, guest speakers and discussion forums at the residential conference ensure everyone gets the chance to voice their opinions, learn more about the union, and meet new friends.
For more information about the youth committees, the annual conference, and training courses, contact your local office or the Education Department at Central Office.
