Real life training aid

Sainsbury’s rep Sonia Foster used her race discrimination case to help others learn how to deal with this vital workplace issue.

Sonia, with Usdaw's help, took a claim against her former manager for racially offensive remarks made at a meeting. As part of the weekend, members were asked to consider how they would have dealt with Sonia's case if it happened in their store.

"It worked very well," said Sonia. "I think it makes the scenario much more real when you have the person who's experienced it there next to you.

"I enjoyed the weekend very much. People were interested in my story and I did my best to help them understand the issues. I'd welcome the chance to get more involved."
