MPs promote campaign in streets and in stores
Midlands MP Janet Dean was an enthusiastic supporter of Usdaw’s campaign when she helped out union activists on a street stall, in Burton on Trent, to promote Freedom From Fear.
The team of activists, co-ordinated by Area Organiser Mark Jarvis, took the union's message to the shopping public onto the streets of the town. "It went very well," said Mark. "We took the time to explain the problems to members of the general public and, by and large, they were very receptive to our point of view.
"The reps did a great job and it was a fantastic boost to have our local MP backing us all the way. The shopping public are happy to back our campaign when we describe the problems our members face."
Janet Dean said: "I believe that Usdaw should be commended for the firm stance it has taken in its Freedom From Fear campaign. All shopworkers deserve to be free to go about their work without fear of verbal abuse or threats of physical violence. I'm very pleased to wholeheartedly support the union's campaign."
