Your opinion counts at key weekend event
Chargehand Barry Morgan was at the black and Asian members weekend for the third time and rated it ‘the best one so far.’
The union rep, from Grampian Country Pork in Wakefield, also took part in the filming of the union's video on racism in the workplace. "A top drawer weekend," said Barry. "The facilities were excellent and everyone got on brilliantly.
"The workshop sessions were very useful. In the small groups everyone could have their say and then we reported back to the whole group using flip charts. The discussions encouraged people to share experiences, and these were very interesting and helped to keep the weekend moving along."
Meanwhile, a well known member of the union's black and Asian membership, Janet Bruce-Konuah, has used her experience to secure a place on the union's new Organising Academy.
The 36 year-old Tesco worker brings with her a wealth of recruitment and organising experience and is a well-respected member of the North West division. She has held a number of positions within the union on a local, divisional and national basis.
Janet will be based at the Warrington office where her coach will be Recruitment and Development Officer Jane Hunter. "Being in the Academy will give me a lot more time to concentrate on my union work," said Janet. "It'll also give me valuable experience, and, hopefully, will be the first step towards even more involvement with Usdaw and the membership."
