Campaign takes hold in the stores

Activists from the Guildford branch have combined to take the Freedom From Fear campaign to supermarket giants Sainsbury and Tesco.

A stall was set up outside the Sainsbury?s store in Cobham, Surrey and another day of action is planned for the nearby Tesco, Brooklyn store and depot.

"Customers and staff have really taken to our campaign," said union rep, and store trainer, Amanda Mansfield. "We handed out leaflets and badges to the public who were very interested, and surprised, to find out about the level of abuse and violence in retail.

"Staff are really pleased the union has taken this issue on board. We've had some fantastic feedback from our members, who are wearing their badges with pride. Our store manager supported us and this helped on the day. We really did raise awareness of the issue and we intend other publicity days later in the year.

"Our branch officers Mick and Darren work at the Tesco, Brooklyn depot, and they have received support from their members even though they aren?t on the frontline. Everyone can see the sense of this campaign."
