Making work pay
Young people deserve equal pay for equal work. In 2010 Usdaw
successfully negotiated with Tesco the abolition of their under-18
pay rate. This was equivalent to a pay rise of £1.25 per hour!
This means that from 29 August 2010, all employees regardless of
their age will now be paid the adult rate of £6.81 per hour (£6.47
in Express). This gives Tesco workers under the age of 18 around £3
more per hour than the National Minimum Wage.
Young workers are amongst the most vulnerable. The main reason
for their vulnerability is that many do not join a trade union and
lose out on vital protection at work.
Make sure you don’t lose out – Join Usdaw today!
