This booklet is designed to help you deal with queries and to support pregnant women and new mothers at work. It provides a basic, easy to understand guide to maternity, paternity and adoption pay and leave.

It also covers parental leave, time off for dependants and the right to request flexible working. The rights set out in this booklet are legal entitlements. They can be added to, but not reduced by individual employers.

Usdaw reps have a key role to play in making sure women know about their rights and feel confident to use them. Our reps do a fantastic job in helping pregnant women and new mothers get a fair deal at work.

Finally, don't forget that help and advice is always available. Maternity rights can seem complex and confusing so don't hesitate to get in touch if you need to. You can contact your Area Organiser or the Equalities Section at Central Office who will be happy to help.
