What do Safety Reps do?
By law Trade Union Safety Reps have powers
to:
- Investigate complaints on behalf of
members
- Investigate accidents
- Take up health and safety problems with
management
- Carry out health and safety inspections of
the workplace at least four times a year
- Demand information if it affects the health
and safety of members
- Have paid time to carry out their Safety
Rep functions and to attend trade Union training
- Represent the members in discussions with
visiting officers from health and safety enforcement
authorities
The employer must consult with Safety Reps
in good time on any matters affecting the health and safety of
members and must provide Safety Reps with reasonable facilities and
assistance including time for Trade Union training and carrying out
their legal functions in the workplace.
