Accident Book
If a member is injured at work, it is important that they report
the injury to their employer. Employers are required to keep a
record of accidents for this purpose. As a result an Accident Book,
or some equivalent means of recording accidents is needed. In May
2003 a revised Accident Book was introduced (BL 510) to meet the
requirements of the Data Protection Act. Basically this new version
of the Accident Book allows individual records to be removed and
stored confidentially. If the employer chooses to use their own
accident recording system, they must ensure that records are
confidential. However, union health and safety reps are entitled to
have access to Accident Book reports.
