Paddy Lillis is the Deputy General Secretary of the UKs fourth biggest trade union, Usdaw. He was elected as second in command of the 359,000 strong union in August 2004 following the election of John Hannett to General Secretary.
Paddy, aged 50, has been an Usdaw member for more than 29 years. He was appointed to Usdaw's staff in 1989 as an Area Organiser based at the union's Bristol office. He was promoted in 1997 to Divisional Officer in charge of the South Wales and Western Division. Before working for Usdaw, Paddy was employed as a heavy goods driver at Abbey Meat Packers in Newtonabbey, County Antrim in Northern Ireland. Paddy, who now lives in the North West, is an active Labour Party member. He is a member of the Labour Party National Executive Committee (NEC) and sits on the Prosperity and Work Commission and the Audit Committee. He is also a member of the Justice For Colombia National Committee.
He was previously an executive member of the Wales TUC and the South Wales TUC General Councils. He was also a Local Authority Councillor for ten years.
Paddy has overall responsibility for recruitment and organising within the union, including the very successful Usdaw Organising Academy.
Paddy is married with four children and three grandchildren.
