The union recognises that face coverings can help limit the spread of the virus, but reiterates the need to follow established social distancing measures. Usdaw is calling for clarity and detailed guidance to end confusion and help protect retail staff from abuse. Boots announces plans to cut more than 4,000 jobs - a further crushing blow to high street says Usdaw 09 July 2020 Today, Boots has announced plans to cut around 7% of its workforce within retail, head office and opticians in order to mitigate the significant impact of Covid-19. Usdaw welcomes that Covid-19 testing will be extended to some shop workers and urges employers to support staff through the process 09 July 2020 Retail trade union Usdaw has welcomed today’s Department of Health and Social Care announcement that shop workers in some areas and businesses will be tested for Covid-19, as part of a new pilot, even though they have no symptoms.
