The union believes caution is still needed while infection rates and deaths are still high and is also calling for a new deal on Statutory Sick Pay (SSP). Customers urged by Usdaw to continue wearing a face covering in store and respect shopworkers 26 January 2022 Retail trade union Usdaw is urging customers to observe covid safety measures, despite the Government ending the mandatory wearing of a face covering in shops in England tomorrow. Face coverings continue to be mandatory when shopping in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Government should not water down safety in stores if Covid restrictions are scaled back says Usdaw 19 January 2022 Retail trade union Usdaw is urging the Government to retain the legal requirement in England for shoppers to wear face coverings, if they decide to scale back other Covid safety measures. The union asserts that persistently changing in store rules has impacted compliance. Scottish protection of shopworkers law must continue to encourage incidents of abuse to be reported says Usdaw 10 January 2022 Almost 300 cases of abuse against shop workers in Scotland were reported to police in the first three months of a law designed to protect them. The Protection of Workers Act came into force in August last year and figures from the Scottish Business Resilience Centre show 285 incidents of abuse or threats were reported to police by the end of November. The new law made it a specific offence to threaten or abuse retail staff. Peers agree a protection of workers amendment – Usdaw welcomes this step in the right direction, the union’s campaign continues 16 December 2021 Shopworkers’ trade union Usdaw has welcomed Peers passing a new protection of workers amendment to the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill in the House of Lords last night. The Government proposed the amendment after years of opposition to Usdaw’s campaign for a new law to protect shopworkers.
