Sainsbury's and Argos increase pay rates for Argos retail workers in outer London to £11.05

Following the pay review in January, which saw retail trade union Usdaw secure at least £10 per hour for Sainsbury’s and Argos shopworkers, the company and the union have been reviewing the current inner and outer London bandings and pay rates.

Following negotiations between representatives from retail trade union Usdaw and leading supermarket Tesco, the new pay deal will see a new minimum pay rate of at least £10.10 per hour for Tesco shopworkers in a ground-breaking pay deal. Minimum wage increase not enough in a cost of living crisis says Usdaw

Retail trade union Usdaw is disappointed that low-paid workers will not receive a minimum wage increase that will provide a wage they can live on. Today’s increase in the so-called National Living Wage to £9.50 an hour doesn’t meet Usdaw’s call for £10 per hour immediately or the real living wage rate of £9.90.

Government crime report confirms Usdaw findings on the scale of violence, threats and abuse against shopworkers

A Home Office report has found that attacks against shopworkers significantly increased during the pandemic, with high levels of verbal abuse, threats and violence. This is in line with the findings in Usdaw’s own survey and the Association of Convenience Stores’ annual crime report.
