ShopKind Week: Usdaw joins the call for respect for shopworkers, who are under pressure during the cost of living crisis

Retail trade union Usdaw has welcomed today’s launch of the national #ShopKind Week, which encourages shoppers to treat staff with respect. New polling reveals that more than one in three people believe that shopping has become more frustrating as a result of the cost of living crisis and 36% of customers have personally witnessed a shopworker being verbally or physically abused by another customer.

ACS Crime Survey finds a disturbing increase in shoplifting – Usdaw calls for retail crime to be taken seriously

Retail trade union Usdaw is deeply concerned by today’s new figures from the Association of Convenience Stores (ACS) revealing record levels of shop theft in convenience stores last year. This adds to evidence from police recorded crime statistics showing increases in shoplifting over the last year, ending a decade-long downward trend.

Retail trade union Usdaw has today (10 March) launched shocking statistics from their annual survey of over 7,700 retail staff showing that nearly a third (30%) are considering changing their job and over four-in-ten (41%) feel anxious about work, all because of high levels of verbal abuse, threats and assaults.

ICTU (NI) Biennial Conference 2022: Protect Northern Irish retail workers from abuse, threats and violence says Usdaw

Retail trade union Usdaw has a delegation attending the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU) Northern Ireland (NI) Biennial Conference in Enniskillen on 22 and 23 November. The union is calling for retail workers in Northern Ireland to be offered specific legal protections from violence, threats and abuse. Retail workers in Norther Ireland have been left behind while protections have been introduced in England, Scotland and Wales.
