Shopworkers’ trade union Usdaw has welcomed this year’s ‘Together Fest’, organised by the Retail Trust charity, which takes place in London on Thursday 25 May. Following on from Mental Health Awareness Week, the event will celebrate the power of collaboration by bringing together retail colleagues to share tools and advice that will empower us all to live happier, healthier lives.

Worrying 23% increase in shoplifting across England and Wales – Usdaw calls for retail crime to be taken seriously

Shopworkers’ trade union Usdaw is deeply concerned by police recorded crime statistics for England and Wales showing that in the 12 months to December 2022 there was a 23% increase in shoplifting. This continues the trend of persistent quarterly increases after a dramatic decrease during the pandemic.

Retail trade union Usdaw has welcomed today’s launch of the national #ShopKind Week, which encourages shoppers to treat staff with respect. New polling reveals that more than one in three people believe that shopping has become more frustrating as a result of the cost of living crisis and 36% of customers have personally witnessed a shopworker being verbally or physically abused by another customer.
