Worrying 21% increase in shoplifting - Usdaw calls for retail crime to be taken seriously

Shopworkers’ trade union Usdaw is deeply concerned by today’s police recorded crime statistics showing that in the 12 months to March 2022 there was a 21% increase in shoplifting over the previous year. While there has been an 11% decrease over the last decade, today’s increase is a worrying reversal of the recent downward trend.

Usdaw General Secretary Paddy Lillis and Tesco Chief People Officer Emma Taylor have this week signed a renewed and improved partnership agreement, which is the largest private sector collective bargaining agreement in the UK and one of the largest in Europe.
