Shopworkers’ trade union Usdaw is urging the Government not to restrict access to justice for victims of workplace accidents or diseases. The union today gave evidence to the House of Commons Justice Select Committee in opposition to Government reforms to personal injury cases.

TUC condemns plans to ditch working time protection

The TUC has spoken out against proposals from Ministers to scrap the Working Time Directive in post-Brexit Britain. Repealing the Working Time Regulations would remove rights to paid holidays, daily and weekly rest breaks, restrictions on maximum weekly hours and health protection for night workers. At least 7 million workers would lose out according to the TUC.

Shopworkers’ trade union Usdaw has launched Respect for Shopworkers Week with shocking statistics from the union’s Freedom From Fear Survey, which shows that in Scotland 70% of shopworkers were verbally abused, 42% were threatened and 5% were assaulted over the last 12 months.

Shopworkers’ trade union leader John Hannett is urging retail staff not to suffer in silence as the latest survey by Usdaw shows that 56% of those who experienced violence, threats or abuse at work did not report the incident to their employer. Worryingly 22% of shopworkers who were physically attacked did not report the assault.
