Supreme Court grants Usdaw permission to appeal in the Tesco ‘fire and rehire’ case 22 December 2022 The Supreme Court has granted Usdaw permission to proceed with its case against Tesco – in an ongoing battle over the supermarket giant’s use of ‘fire and rehire’ practices. Scottish shops should be closed on New Year’s Day to give shopworkers a well-deserved break says Usdaw 20 December 2022 Retail trade union Usdaw is backing the vast majority of Scottish shopworkers who want large stores to stay closed on New Year’s Day. The union is calling on the Scottish Government to reverse their opposition to giving retail workers a proper festive break. Today the Retail Prices Index (RPI) rate of inflation dipped slightly to 14% and the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) rate to 10.7%. A YouGov opinion poll of 1,763 UK adults, commissioned by Usdaw, has found that 79% support their local supermarket closing all their stores on Boxing Day. Usdaw’s own surveying found that 97% of supermarket workers also want the closure. Government’s rejection of an online sales tax shows they have failed to understand the devastation on our high streets says Usdaw 06 December 2022 Retail trade union Usdaw is calling on the Government to reverse their rejection of an Online Sales Tax, after BBC research lays bare the scale of the devastation our high streets have suffered. Usdaw has long called for this measure to help rebalance taxation between online and in-store retail and was supported by many retail businesses.
