Usdaw celebrates LGBT+ History Month 2023

Usdaw welcomes the beginning of LGBT+ History Month, which is celebrated in the UK every February. The initiative was started by Schools OUT 18 years ago to mark the abolition of Section 28 and shine a spotlight on LGBT+ lives that have been overlooked and excluded from history.

Tesco restructure puts more than 2,000 jobs at risk – Usdaw to enter into consultation talks

Retail trade union Usdaw has been notified by Tesco of their plans to close their remaining in-store counter services, along with restructuring store management roles and some head office functions. The union will now enter into consultation talks with the company on their proposals.

Another Tory growth plan that fails to recognise the need for a new deal for workers says Usdaw

Retail trade union Usdaw has described the latest Tory growth plan as disappointing, but not surprising that they fail to recognise the need to deliver a new deal for workers. The Chancellor Jeremy Hunt set out his four pillars of economic growth in a speech at Bloomberg today: enterprise, education, employment and everywhere.

London Labour Conference 2023: Usdaw seeks a new deal on new technology, automation and skills

Retail and distribution trade union Usdaw has a delegation attending the London Labour Conference on 28 and 29 January. The union is seeking a new deal for workers on the introduction of new technology and automation in their workplaces and better access to training.

‘Fire and rehire’ should be banned not given a code of practice says Usdaw

Retail trade union Usdaw has responded to the Government’s proposed code of practice on ‘fire and rehire’ with deep disappointment. ‘Fire and rehire’ refers to when an employer dismisses an employee and offers to re-engage them on a new contract with less-favourable terms.

Menopause leave rejected by the Government – Usdaw continues the campaign for statutory workplace rights

Retail trade union Usdaw is deeply disappointed that the Government has today rejected calls for a large scale pilot of menopause leave and a recommendation from the House of Commons Women and Equalities Committee to make menopause a ‘protected characteristic’ under the Equalities Act.

Government must end rampant exploitation of migrant workers says Usdaw

Retail trade union Usdaw has joined with other unions to condemn Government’s attempts to ‘pit’ workers against each other, and to call for urgent action to advance the rights of migrant workers, including undocumented people, and end migrant worker exploitation.
