ACS survey confirms Usdaw and BRC finding that attacks on shopworkers are a growing problem

The Association of Convenience Stores (ACS) has today released their annual retail crime survey, which confirms last week’s findings by shopworkers’ trade union Usdaw and the British Retail Consortium (BRC) that violence, threats and abuse against shop staff are on the increase.

The Government responded with a round-table discussion with Usdaw and retail employers, which has led to the promise of a ‘call for evidence’ to inform future Government action to protect shopworkers.

Offensive Weapons Bill: Peers urged by Usdaw to support a protection for shopworkers amendment

The Offensive Weapons Bill sets out criminal penalties for shopworkers and delivery drivers who allow sales of corrosive substances and knives to under-18s. The amendment backed by Usdaw will create an offence if the person attempting to buy these products abuses, threatens or assaults the retail worker who is enforcing the law.
