Usdaw welcomes the announcement that a general election will be held on 12 December 2019

On Tuesday evening MPs voted to call a general election setting the stage for a 12 December contest. The legislation will begin its passage through the House of Lords today, where it is not expected to be opposed. Parliament will dissolve next Wednesday for a short campaign of five weeks.

Shoplifting up by 15% in the last decade - Usdaw calls on the Government to cut crime and protect shopworkers

Shopworkers’ trade union leader Paddy Lillis has called for Government action in light of the Office for National Statistics today reporting a 15% increase in police recorded incidents of shoplifting in England and Wales over the last decade. Theft from shops is a main trigger for violence, threats and abuse against shopworkers.
