This should be delivered in an employment bill, which the Tories promised in their 2019 manifesto and, as reported by the TUC, this promise has been repeated at least 20 times since. It is unacceptable that such a bill is not in the programme of legislation for the coming parliamentary year, as set out in today’s Queen’s Speech. Queen's Speech: Usdaw calls for an employment bill and housing bill to help low-paid workers tackle the cost of living crisis 07 May 2022 Retail trade union Usdaw is calling on the Government to use the next parliamentary term to bring forward a long awaited and overdue employment bill, along with a bill to tackle the housing emergency, as key measures to help workers struggling to make ends meet. Usdaw backs a minimum wage of at least £12 per hour as step towards £15 01 May 2022 Retail trade union Usdaw has today backed a call for a minimum wage of at least £12 per hour. Delegates voted unanimously in favour at the union’s Annual Delegate Meeting in Blackpool’s Winter Gardens. International Workers' Day: Usdaw renews their call for a New Deal for Workers 01 May 2022 Retail trade union Usdaw is marking International Workers’ Day (1 May) by renewing the call for a New Deal for Workers to help those in low-paid insecure employment cope with the growing cost of living crisis, many of whom are key workers. With RPI at 9% Usdaw calls on the Chancellor to take immediate steps to tackle the cost of living crisis 22 April 2022 Shopworkers’ trade union leader Paddy Lillis has written to the Chancellor of the Exchequer calling on the Government to immediately take the following three key measures to tackle the cost of living crisis: Sainsbury's and Argos increase pay rates for Argos retail workers in outer London to £11.05 08 April 2022 Following the pay review in January, which saw retail trade union Usdaw secure at least £10 per hour for Sainsbury’s and Argos shopworkers, the company and the union have been reviewing the current inner and outer London bandings and pay rates. Tesco pay deal: Usdaw breaks through £10 per hour rate in major step forward for the union’s New Deal for Workers campaign 07 April 2022 Following negotiations between representatives from retail trade union Usdaw and leading supermarket Tesco, the new pay deal will see a new minimum pay rate of at least £10.10 per hour for Tesco shopworkers in a ground-breaking pay deal. The deal is another step forward for the union’s New Deal for Workers campaign. Minimum wage increase not enough in a cost of living crisis says Usdaw 01 April 2022 Retail trade union Usdaw is disappointed that low-paid workers will not receive a minimum wage increase that will provide a wage they can live on. Today’s increase in the so-called National Living Wage to £9.50 an hour doesn’t meet Usdaw’s call for £10 per hour immediately or the real living wage rate of £9.90. Northern TUC Conference: Usdaw calls for action to tackle the deepening cost of living crisis and respect for shopworkers 25 March 2022 Retail trade union Usdaw has a delegation attending this year’s Northern Trades Union Congress (TUC) Conference and is calling for action to tackle the deepening cost of living crisis and protection for shopworkers from violence, threats and abuse. The conference takes place on Saturday 26 March 2022 in Newcastle. As the Scottish Government launches its new retail strategy, Usdaw calls for better pay and conditions in the sector, and a level playing field for online and high street retail 24 March 2022 The Scottish Government has today launched a new retail strategy, which aims to encourage fair work and improve skills in the sector. Usdaw, the trade union for retail, has been involved with the Scottish Government’s Steering Group, ensuring that the views and concerns of Scotland’s 240,000 retail workers were heard in the formulation of the strategy.
