TUC Needs Your Help To Celebrate 40 Years of Union Safety Reps

Date: 19 June 2017 To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Safety Representative and Safety Committee Regulations, the TUC plans to publish a report showing the positive difference that trade union safety reps have made. The report is due to be published in October 2017. They need some simple case studies illustrating what safety reps have achieved in all kinds of workplaces. Tell us what Usdaw safety reps have done for you and they could get a mention in the TUC report.
The TUC is looking for examples from any time over the last 40 years. They can involve single reps, groups of health and safety representatives working as a team or work through safety committees. If there are any members who have been around long enough to remember the early days when health and safety reps first started, it would be great to hear your stories. But the TUC is also interested in more recent examples which help to show that health and safety reps are making a difference today.

As Hugh Robertson, head of health and safety at the TUC, explains, ‘All we ask is that the example illustrates that there was a difference in the workplace as a result of having trade union health and safety representatives. The information we need is the name of the representative; the union; the employer; what was done and what was achieved.’

If you have a good story to tell please contact the Usdaw Health and Safety Officer, Doug Russell at [email protected] or phone 0161 249 2441.
