Usdaw seeks reassurances for members working in Asda as the company confirms talks with 'third-party investors'

Date: 27 February 2020 Shopworkers’ trade union Usdaw is in discussions with Asda management as Walmart confirms they are in negotiations with a small number of parties interested in acquiring Asda. Usdaw is the recognised trade union for Asda staff in Northern Ireland.
Mike Aylward – Usdaw Divisional Officer says: “This news comes as no shock to our members, because Walmart has been attempting to sell Asda for nearly two years, including its failed merger with Sainsbury’s. However this is clearly a worrying time for staff and we are seeking reassurances that job security will be a key consideration in any sale of the business. In the meantime Usdaw is providing our members with the support, advice and representation they need through this period of uncertainty.”

Notes for editors:

Usdaw (Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers) is the UK's fifth biggest trade union with over 400,000 members.
