House of Fraser staff in limbo - Sports Direct must engage with Usdaw to give staff a voice in the future of the business

Date: 02 October 2018 Shopworkers’ trade union Usdaw is calling on the House of Fraser owners Sports Direct to engage with the union, allowing the staff to be kept informed of developments and have a say in the future of the business.
Dave Gill – Usdaw National Officer says: “House of Fraser staff have been left in limbo, as they have been largely frozen out of the discussions about the future business so far. They are deeply concerned to see reports of the management team being dismissed by Sports Direct. With three stores closing and the future of the others in balance, our members are clearly concerned. Yet they are frozen out of the discussions and are largely hearing about developments through the media.

“It is crucial that staff are treated with dignity and fairness and that is best done by engaging with Usdaw as the trade union for House of Fraser staff, providing a collective voice. We are seeking talks with Sports Direct. In the meantime we are providing our members with the support, advice and representation they require at this very difficult time.”
