Usdaw rep Maureen Loxley receives MBE in the New Year's Honours List

Date: 29 December 2018 Shopworkers’ trade union Usdaw is celebrating the award of an MBE to Maureen Loxley, a long-serving union rep and activist from Tesco Gloucester.
The Member of the Order of the British Empire award has been given in recognition of services to the retail sector and trade unions. Maureen Loxley MBE has been a member of Usdaw for 38 years, she came to the UK from Jamaica as a young woman and soon became active in the union.

Paddy Lillis – Usdaw General Secretary says: “We are very proud that one of our longest serving reps and prominent activists has received this prestigious award. We congratulate Maureen on her achievement and thank her for the years of service she has given to Usdaw and our members.

“Maureen is a founder member of Usdaw’s National Equalities Advisory Group and represents the union on the TUC Race Relations Committee and the South West TUC Executive, where she is a strong voice for black women and particularly those in low paid work.

“Maureen is always willing to share her experiences by speaking at events, encouraging and mentoring others to take on new challenges. She regularly raises funds for vulnerable individuals, in particular people from BAME communities.

“This award is a real boost for all trade union reps and activists as the work they do is recognised at the highest level. Maureen is a first class example of what thousands of volunteers are achieving in their workplaces across the country and she thoroughly deserves this recognition."
