Dave Thom – Usdaw Area organiser says: “House of Fraser’s new owner’s complete refusal to settle debts with XPO has now put the jobs of nearly 300 staff at the Wellingborough site at risk of redundancy. We have had our first consultation meeting with the company and we will continue in talks to try to save jobs.
“All of the hardworking and loyal staff at the site are understandably shocked and stunned by the situation they find themselves in, through absolutely no fault of their own, as they await to hear their fate.
“In the meantime, we are providing our members with all the advice, support and representation they require at this very difficult time.
“We strongly urge Sports Direct and the administrators for House of Fraser to between them do the right thing and come to a satisfactory agreement over the money owed to XPO.
“As things currently stand, it appears that this is the only chance we have of saving these jobs.”
