Is worry tying you up in knots? Usdaw campaigns on mental health awareness

Date: 23 June 2015 Tomorrow thousands of Usdaw members will be out campaigning on mental health awareness. Activists will be organising street stalls and events in workplaces to promote the theme #TalkToUsdaw.

Is worry tying you up in knots? is the theme for this year’s Supporting Parents and Carers Campaign and the focus of the Usdaw Spotlight Day on Wednesday 24 June 2015.

John Hannett – Usdaw General Secretary says: “Many people feel under pressure at work and at home; having to cope with changes to hours, rising food and fuel bills and changes to benefits. When times are tough people can feel anxious and worried, which can in turn affect their mental health.

“We want to encourage workers who feel under pressure to talk to their union sooner rather than later. We can help to make a difference by ensuring they get the advice and support they need. Usdaw also seeks to work with employers to develop policies and procedures that support staff worried about their mental health.

“Campaign days like these are important to let workers know that support is out there, they don’t have to face problems alone and there is no stigma in asking for help.”
